Axial needle roller and cage assemblies for flat raceways

A needle roller thrust bearing takes axial load between two faces that rotate relative to each other, and it does so with a cage full of needle rollers instead of balls. Because the rollers lie flat rather than standing, the build height stays low while load capacity in the shaft direction remains high. That suits gearboxes, spindles, rotary tables and other assemblies where axial force is present but there is almost no room left for the bearing.

Check the inner and outer diameter of the running surface, and check the condition of the mating faces: the needle cage runs directly on the counterface, so that face has to be hard enough and flat enough, otherwise a separate thrust washer is needed. Sizes run from small cages around 15 x 28 mm up to 100 x 135 mm and larger, so compact transmissions and heavier drives are both served. SKF supplies the common programme.
