Router templates for accurate routing
With a router template you guide the router along a fixed contour, so you reproduce the same shape identically every time. The template steers the guide bushing or the bearing of the cutter, which makes edges, slots and recesses crisp and repeatable. For cabinetmakers and interior builders, that is the difference between a precise fit and endless sanding.
An adjustable template system lets you set rectangles, circles and free shapes, while specialised versions cut finger joints and dovetails for strong timber joints. When choosing, look at the sizing you need most often and at compatibility with your guide bushing or guide system. A routing sled or routing jig extends the reach to larger workpieces and repeatable cuts.
Pick templates made of durable material, because the guide edge has to stay dimensionally stable after intensive use. Check too that the router template leaves room for the chip extraction on your router, so visibility and air quality stay in order. That way you deliver joints that close seamlessly and stop endlessly fitting and measuring.
