Torque wrenches for accurate tightening to torque

A torque wrench lets you tighten bolts and nuts to an exact, specified torque, so joints do not work loose and parts are not damaged by over-tightening. In automotive, machine building and construction that is the difference between a reliable assembly and an expensive failure. You set the required value and the wrench gives an audible or felt signal as soon as the torque is reached.

The two things to check first are the torque range and the drive square: light models from 12 Nm are meant for fine electronics and bicycle work, while heavy versions up to 1500 Nm handle truck, steel and foundation work. For the mid range around 100 Nm to 300 Nm you will find versatile wrenches for general maintenance. Watch the scale, the reversible ratchet head and the option to recalibrate, because a torque wrench stays accurate only if it is checked periodically.
