Puller sleeves for bearings with a tapered bore

A puller sleeve lets you mount a bearing with a tapered bore on a plain shaft, without the shaft needing a taper or a shoulder of its own. The sleeve is tapered on the outside and cylindrical on the inside, with a slot over its full length. Tightening the lock nut draws the bearing up the taper, the sleeve clamps onto the shaft and the inner ring is held in place.

That makes it the standard solution for transmission shafts, layshafts and drives where a bearing has to come off now and then. Removal is just as simple: slacken the nut, the sleeve releases, the bearing comes off, with no puller and no damage to the shaft.

Three dimensions decide the choice. Shaft diameter sets the bore, the bearing type sets the taper ratio, and the thread on the sleeve has to match the lock nut that belongs to it. Metric thread runs here from fine to coarser pitches. A sleeve one size out will not clamp properly and runs hot. SKF works in fixed size series, so work back from the bearing number to the sleeve rather than the other way round. Separate parts such as the inner ring and the spacer ring are listed on their own.
