Digital micrometers for precision measurement

A micrometer resolves a dimension to a thousandth of a millimetre, which is the level of control needed when a shaft, bore or sheet has to fit without rework. Measuring ranges are stacked in 25 mm steps, so 0 to 25 mm, 25 to 50 mm and on up to 100 mm and beyond, and each frame is calibrated for its own span rather than covering everything at once. Choose the range that brackets the feature you inspect most often; a small set of frames beats one oversized instrument.

Digital readouts remove parallax error and switch between metric and imperial, and models with data output feed readings straight into a measurement log, which matters when inspection records have to be traceable. Sealed instruments keep coolant, swarf and oil out of the mechanism on a live machining line. A ratchet or friction thimble applies the same measuring force on every reading, and that single detail removes the largest source of operator-to-operator variation.

Part of the wider digital measuring instruments range, a micrometer works alongside a caliper for quicker checks.
