Mains voltage testers in screwdriver form

A voltage tester in screwdriver form is the quickest check on a socket outlet, a switch or a light fitting: touch the tip to the conductor, close the circuit through the top cap and the neon or LED indicator answers at once. Blades run from around 3 mm for terminal screws up to wider slotted tips for consumer unit work, and a pocket clip keeps the tester where a fault call needs it.

Single-pole phase testers identify the live conductor on mains circuits rated to 250V. They are made for orientation, not for proving dead, and a two-pole instrument is the right tool where a circuit has to be confirmed isolated, because a single-pole tip can be fooled by induced voltage on long or parallel runs.
