Spring balancer for tools at the workstation

A spring balancer hangs a tool above the workstation and compensates its weight with a spring, so it stays wherever you let go of it. The fitter barely feels the mass, does not have to put the tool down, and keeps the cable or air hose out of the way. On an assembly line or a test bench that saves a couple of seconds on every operation, and over a day it takes a real load off shoulders and wrists.

Capacity is the deciding figure and it has to match the full weight, so including the bit, socket, hose and coupling. Light versions start at around 0.4 kg for screwdrivers and small tackers, medium models cover the range most assembly tools fall in, and heavy versions run to about 30 kg for impact wrenches and larger equipment.

Look at cable length as well, because the balancer has to hang high enough to keep the gangway clear.

For directed lifting use a ratchet hoist or a lifting magnet.
