Sliding bevels for carpentry and woodworking
A sliding bevel lets you set, lock and transfer any angle accurately to your workpiece. In woodworking, carpentry and cabinetmaking it is indispensable for marking out mitres, bevelled joints and existing angles you want to copy elsewhere. The adjustable blade pivots against the stock and stays at the set position once locked, so you repeat the angle as often as you need. When choosing, look at the blade length, the locking mechanism and the blade material.
A hardened or stainless steel blade stays straight and sharp for longer, while a smooth but firm pivot makes setting easy and keeps out play. Blade lengths from 200 mm to 300 mm suit fine and larger work respectively. A clearly readable marking and a flat, stable stock raise the accuracy when marking out. Bahco, Stanley, Irwin and Festool supply sliding bevels for both the workshop and use on site, tuned for precision and durability.
