Socket and ratchet sets in a case or a foam module

Socket sets bring a run of sockets and a ratchet together in one holder, so you are not hunting per size during assembly or strip-down. A 1/2" drive takes the highest torque and is the usual choice for chassis work, steel fabrication and heavier installation.

Choose between six-point and twelve-point first. A six-point socket grips the nut on its flats and holds up better at high torque, while a twelve-point engages faster in a tight corner because it fits in more positions.

Then watch the difference between hand sockets and impact sockets. Impact sockets are made of tougher steel and belong on an impact wrench; hand sockets do not, and mixing the two costs you the socket in the end. Deep sockets are what you need as soon as threaded rod protrudes past the nut. The size range runs from small nuts to well past 50 mm, so check which sizes come round in your own work.
