Blind rivet nuts for single-side thread installation
Blind rivet nuts create a strong, permanent threaded connection in materials where you can only access one side of the workpiece. This makes them indispensable for sheet metal fabrication, enclosure assembly and structural applications where welding a nut to the back face is impossible or impractical.
The installation process is straightforward: drill a hole, insert the rivet nut from the accessible side and pull the mandrel with a setting tool. The nut body deforms on the blind side, clamping against the parent material and forming a flush, vibration-resistant thread insert. Cylindrical rivet nuts with smooth shanks are suited to softer materials like aluminium sheet, where the smooth deformation zone spreads the clamping load evenly without cracking the substrate.
Knurled shank versions provide additional resistance to rotation in harder materials like steel panels, where the knurl pattern bites into the hole wall during setting. Thread sizes from M5 to M8 cover the most common fastening requirements in light and medium structural work. Aluminium body rivet nuts keep weight down in applications where mass matters, while steel versions deliver higher pull-out and shear strength for load-bearing connections.
