Ring spanners with offset, open and double-ended heads

A ring spanner grips a fastener on all its corners, spreading load around the head instead of into two flats, which is why it is the right choice on tight or corroded nuts where an open jaw would round the corners off. The closed head lets more torque be applied safely and holds position under load, so the tool stays put while body weight goes into the swing.

Head geometry is the main variable. A twelve-point ring engages every 30 degrees for work in a confined swing arc, while a six-point head bites deeper and suits high torque on soft or worn fasteners. Offset heads lift the hand clear of the work, and deep-offset patterns clear a flange or a protruding stud. Open versions slip over hydraulic and fuel lines that cannot be disconnected.

Sizes here run from 11 mm through to 41 mm and beyond, in double-ended pairs and in sets. Where access is tighter, a hex key reaches internal drives, and a combination spanner carries both head styles on one tool.
