Liquid paint markers for marking on site

A paint marker writes where a felt tip gives up: oily steel, damp timber, dusty concrete, rusted pipework and dark surfaces that swallow ink. The pigment is a liquid paint rather than a dye, so the mark sits on top of grease and stays legible through weather, handling and a wash-down until the part is cut or fitted.

Choose the tip to the job. A bullet tip keeps a consistent line for numbering, layout and cut marks. A chisel tip gives a broad stroke for identification that has to be read across a yard, and a fine line when turned on edge. White and yellow read best on dark steel and inside ducting, while black and red suit galvanised sheet, timber and light-coloured board.

Shake before use and store the barrel horizontally so the valve does not dry out between jobs. For larger work, spray marking paint handles ground and floor layout, while a felt tip pen stays the cheaper option for clean indoor labelling.
