Awls for scribing, marking and piercing tasks

An awl is a pointed hand tool used for scribing lines, marking hole positions and piercing soft materials such as leather, wood and gaskets. The hardened steel tip creates precise starting points for drill bits and screws, preventing the tool from slipping on smooth surfaces.

This range includes round awls for general marking and layout work, and square awls that cut a small channel into the material for even more accurate positioning of subsequent drilling or fastening. Blade lengths range from 50 mm for fine detail work in tight spaces to 107 mm for deeper reach through thicker materials. Bahco awls feature the BahcoFit rubber grip for comfortable, secure handling during extended use.

Wera models are designed for high torque transfer through a Kraftform handle that fills the palm naturally. Facom ProTwist awls combine a hardened tip with an ergonomic handle shape optimised for repetitive marking tasks. You will also find the Gedore bodkin for general-purpose piercing, Wiha precision awls and the Stanley FatMax model with a reinforced blade for tougher materials.
