Product description
- Highly flexible bond that withstands extreme shock, vibration and bending; ideal for moulding and applications in the transport industry
- Maintains strong adhesion under expansion, contraction and limited movement, and also retains good strength after aging due to environmental conditions
- Excellent for cryogenic bonding applications or bonding to substrates exposed to extreme cold
- Minimal bleeding, dripping or migration due to medium viscosity; also self-levelling
- Versatile adhesive that bonds to a wide variety of similar and dissimilar substrates, including metals and masonry
3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Adhesive 2216 is a flexible two-component epoxy adhesive that cures at room temperature. It offers very strong adhesion with both high shear and peel strength, while remaining highly flexible, making it ideally suited to applications where vibration and expansion and contraction due to temperature differences are commonplace. The adhesive can also withstand very cold temperatures without becoming excessively brittle.
Easy application, flexible performance Our 3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Adhesive 2216 is designed for applications requiring excellent performance and flexible joints. Due to its flexibility, this adhesive is ideal for applications with dissimilar surfaces and where different expansion coefficients are involved. When fully cured, the epoxy adhesive maintains very strong adhesion under expansion, contraction and limited movement, and also maintains good strength over time and after ageing due to environmental factors. With a mixing ratio of 2:3, this is a low-viscosity epoxy adhesive. The adhesive can be applied smoothly for accurate dispensing. Both the base agent and the accelerator are marked in contrasting colours to ensure you know which part of the product you are using. Recommended applications Cryogenic bonding applications where adhesives may experience extreme temperatures Casting in situations where expansion and temperature fluctuations may occur, such as solar panels and white goods or construction applications Military bonding applications, e.g. for bonding parts to transport equipment Bonding in general aerospace and transport applications where vibration and movement are normal Bonding of most plastics Bonding of ceramics, plastics and glass to metal Bonding of various substrates to masonry and stone Long-term reliability We designed the 3M Scotch-Weld Epoxy Adhesive 2216 specifically to withstand extremely low temperatures. Because this adhesive can withstand temperatures down to -252 °C / -423 °F, it is ideal for cryogenic bonding applications. At room temperature, the adhesive offers a processing time of 90 minutes that allows repositioning and adjustments. The product cures slowly in 7 days, but can be cured under heating to reduce this time to just 30 minutes (at 93 °C / 200 °F.) The adhesive has a shear strength after bonding that can withstand up to 3200 psi at 24 °C / 72 °F. Solid construction Epoxy adhesives are part of the adhesive class called 'Structural Adhesives', which also includes polyurethane, acrylate, cyanoacrylate and other adhesives.
