Circle cutting guide

Circle cutters, circular guides and circle cutting units let a saw cut a clean circle or arc, for openings in worktops, round panels and cut-outs. They belong to the guide rails, stops and undercarriages for saws and are aimed at joiners, interior fitters and metalworkers.

The machine you work with drives the choice. Circle cutters and circular guides for jigsaws are usually made per model or series: look at the type numbers in the name, such as PS 300, PS 420 or PSC 500, and whether an adapter base is needed. Universal sets with measuring tape and adapter work with different jigsaws and cut circles from 120 to 3000 mm. Metabo also offers circle cutting units for its BAS 260 and BAS 261 machines.

Check the smallest and largest radius a guide reaches and how the centre point is fixed. An adjustable hole saw is the alternative when you drill the opening instead of sawing it. The accessories come from Festool, Metabo, Makita, Milwaukee, DeWalt and Bosch. For a run of identical cut-outs, keep the radius setting locked from one panel to the next.
