A conversation with Geert de Jong, together with his brother Johan, the driving force behind Luik Totaal, is about shutters, shutters and more shutters. And the website is about nothing else. The Luik Totaal site is only in Dutch, but the many examples on the inspiration page tell more than words can.
When asked what makes Luik Totaal special, Geert de Jong replies: ‘We are a family business that focuses entirely on a specialism. We make the wooden shutters ourselves in our own factory and are therefore extremely flexible when it comes to implementation and design.’ Luik Totaal only uses responsibly sourced, STIP-certified wood for their wooden shutters made in their workshop.
Jobé Luikbeslag
Making shutters is a logical addition to the original activity of the company. As early as 1984, the father of the De Jong brothers started supplying hinges and locks for shutters. An activity that is now housed in a separate company, Jobé Luikbeslag. All the necessary hatch fittings can be found in the recently completely renovated Jobé Luikbeslag webshop.
A wide selection of designs
Customers of Luik Totaal can choose from an extensive range, including Louvre shutters, panel shutters, combination shutters, boarded shutters in wood or aluminium, and electrically operated shutters. Geert de Jong understands that it can be hard to choose because of the many options. ‘Advising is an important part of our job. We always make an appointment to measure the shutters and show the shutters and the fitting hardware to be used, and if desired, we provide advice on site.’ Luik Totaal has its own installation team that skilfully hangs the shutters. For customers who want to install it themselves — Luik Totaal takes care of the measurements and provides advice based on photographs.
Wood or aluminium
An important choice that customers make is the material: wood or aluminium. The wooden shutters from Luik Totaal are made from sustainable types of wood, such as Meranti and Western red cedar, and give the house a characteristic, warm look. However, customers are also increasingly using aluminium window shutters. The main advantage is that they are low-maintenance. In addition, aluminium shutters are available in a wide variety of designs and colors, including shutters that look like they are made of wood.
Shutter operation
In addition to a vast selection of wooden and aluminium shutters and matching shutter hardware, Luik Totaal also supplies electric shutter operations to open and close the shutters from the inside. They can also be connected to a timer so the shutters automatically open and close.
